‘I lift up my eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help...’

'Levavi oculos meos in montes unde veniet auxilium meum...'

This Latin setting of Psalm 121 was dedicated to and first performed by Indra Hughes and Musica Sacra.

The harmonic language is strongly diatonic, with the two choirs answering one another over an incessantly rising ground bass.

"Above the opening bell-like motive....the upper voices weave flowing, often scalic melodies....These lines eventually take over the whole choir, building to a rhythmically challenging and utterly satisfying climax."
